Nothing beats a homemade mixed berry pie. It holds together perfectly every single time, and you can use fresh or frozen blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, course you can also add other fruit too, it's your pie!
Here we will learn to make our own pie filled with a nice mix of berries. That way you can do it yourself whenever you want!
First off; make sure you have all the ingredients you need. What's the point of following through on this little guide if you don't have the materials needed to make the pie in the first place? You should have....
1: BERRIES!!! Obviously, this is a MIXED BERRY Pie so berries are very important here. You will typically have blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Strawberries work too of course, but lets assume you don't have that and have the other three for this little guide okay? If you have strawberries that's fine too!
2: Sugar, lemon juice, and a cornstarch slurry to add to the berries.
3: Pie Shell: Well duh, its a pie, you need a shell for said pie. Now I would say any pie crust works based on your preference but I recommend a high quality crust from my experience. One crust I suggest is this “Prize Winning” pie crust recipe".
Okay, now that we have that lets start by making sure to detest berries with seeds in them.
With that lets start for real!
Cook the berries down with a LITTLE bit of sugar, lemon juice, and a cornstarch slurry (Not too high a flame now). This will be the berry filling for the pie.
Then pour the hot filling into your unbaked pie shell.
Cut the top crust into long thin strips for a lattice crust, lay 4-5 along the top of the pie, leaving a small space in between, and then 4-5 strips on top of those, going the opposite direction.
So there you have it. Your very own Homade Mixed Berry Pie. Perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas or any time you’re craving some some dessert.
It has way less sugar than most berry pies. It’s still amazingly sweet, but it’s not overly sweet, like some berry pies tend to be.
It has the perfect amount of liquid to yield a pie slice that holds its shape. Some berry pies are so juicy that they completely fall apart when you cut into them. This one will turn out beautifully, as long as you let it cool for several hours before cutting into it.
