How To Make A Fried Egg

This may seem simple but a lot of people usually flop this up. Even when I go to restaurants the eggs are always overcooked, underseasoned, or awfully greasy when they don't have to be.

Step 1

GET THE DANG PAN

A lot of folks aren't aware that the pan matters when it comes to making different styles of eggs. For a fried egg you would want a non-stick frying pan, sautee pan.

Step 2

HEAT THE PAN

Once you have acquired your heating apparatus of choice, you're going to turn the stove medium to high. We will explain why in a second.

Step 3

BURNING NIGHT OIL

For this example of fried egg we will do the sunny-side egg because it is my personal favorite. We want 3-4 tablespoons of any oil. Some people like olive oil, while others love the neutral taste of grapeseed with some canola oil, my favorite is corn because when I was growing up as a broke little Dominican baby that's what our Puerto Rican neighbors' had.

Step 4

BREAK THE EGG

This is not the egg-lympics. Stop trying to break the egg with two fingers, your forehead or whatever. The simplest way is to get a bowl tap the egg gently against a hard surface, not your significant other's head, and crack it open. When you see the crack form on the egg gently poke through it until you see the egg glaire seep through and you gently rip it apart. If you see some egg shells, use a bigger egg shell and fish it out. You're doing this above the bowl by the way so it doesn't fall or mess up anything.

Step 5

BACK TO THE PAN

Once you have your egg ready it is time to turn the heat down on the pan. You do not want to see white smoke, this means you're burning the oil. Low to medium heat is good. Place the egg in the middle of the pan. This should be easy since you have it in a bowl.

Step 6

LET IT BE

While you're Ovum is crackling in the pan take a step back. You did it! You are so close to a nutritious breakfast and or midnight snack. The Ovum will start to turn white as it cooks in the pan. Some people like to cover the pan at this point in order to cook the outside of the egg with the steam that forms. I was raised in a household that does not believe in salmon-ella so I leave it be.

Step 7

WE MADE IT

Once your egg is done to your liking, I like mine to be super yolky to the dismay of my maternal figure, You will need a spatula or spoon (I am lazy okay leave me alone) to scoop it out. I sometimes reuse this oil to fry something else, like some deliciously cured meats or some cheese. If you don't know what I mean by that I am so sorry your life sucks.
