Its one thing to say that a game is popular and its another to say that its the best in all gaming history. Thou everyone has their own opinion of what is the best of the best. Here we will go over the top 10 best game series. Thats right, we are talking about multiple series of gamessuch as Mario, Legend of Zelda, Mass Effect, etc. Instead of just an individual game, also note that their are many games out there that make us hype but here are a few game series that are still up there on the popularity poll.
Mario
What? Did you think Mario wasn't going to be on here? As we all know, the Super Mario series has been a huge hit in the video game industry since 1981. From there on Mario and crew have had many games with other Nintendo characters such as Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Wario, and so on. Mario has become so popular that what started off as a 2-D platforming game became 3-D World Racing (Mario Kart Series), Party Games (Mario Party Series), Sports (Mario Tennis, Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Super Sluggers, etc), and now even traveling thorugh the galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2). Of course what makes Mario a success is the fact that even it's older games get love as remakes. Mario isn't going anywhere, if I was to say one thing is that Mario is the god of the gaming industry as no one is more popular than his series.
Legend of Zelda
Ah, who can forget another Nintendo favorite, The Legend of Zelda series is just as old as Mario but a few years younger. Made in 1986 and still kicking, this legend has more than earned its spot as one of the most popular game series to date. Unlike Mario, the Zelda series is a little more connected to its traditional game setting. Going through dungeons, fightings monsters, grabbing the sword, sealing an ancient evil and rescuing the princess, this series has never done anything else that is completely different to that like racing in go-karts or playing sports. However unlike Mario, the Legend of Zelda has amazing story-telling, and mechanices that will just leave you wanting to go back and try everything they have to offer. If magical characters, ancient evils, and majestic stories are your thing, this series is for you. Oh and just like Mario they started as pixels too and grew from this...

Mass Effect
Mass Effect will always be in our hearts as an epic RPG shooting game. Futuristic and alien-like environment, badass weapons, sexy aliens that you can romance? What is not to like about that? Unless a future setting is not your thing. Taking place in a future earth where humans co-exist with multiple alien species and on top of that, beside the fact that you can have sex with them, you also can create your own avatar. That's right, you are in the game as your own custom character, you are the hero, the story is told through your eyes. Will you save the world or conquer it? Though Mass Effect is not going on hard like it use to, it is still one of the most memorable games that half the world will know.
Grand Theft Auto
This is a given. Grand Theft Auto(GTA) has been a popular series since 1997. It looks like a simple game where you drive around, shoot people, blow up objects, and complete missions but it has a little more than that. Although when you think about it, all those things can easily be pretty addictive. Unlike the last few games we spoke of already, this series has a different cast of characters in each game, each with their own personalities, quirks, and disfunctions to make you love, hate, or even both. GTA 5; the current game in the series came out in 2013, that was 5 years ago and yet it is still one of the most played games nationwide. If you love money, sex, cars, drugs, fights, swears and gangs then what are you waiting for, this game is calling you.
Dark Souls
Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Thats all I have to say for this game to describe it. If you like medival style settings and a lot of patience than you are worthy of this series. The Dark Souls series is literally a hardcore journey as an undead warrior, facing challenging obstacles that are ready to kill you at every turn. What makes this game hard is that almost every enemy if not all have the potential to kill you if you get even a little bit careless. Every turn has death waiting to screw you over and on top of that, you are not invicible, you can die from almost everything, falling, getting run over by skeletons on spiked wooden wheels or smacked around by an old Demon king. Basically, this is not a game for casual players at all. Expect a lot of rage to be cast upon those who dare to take this challenging series on. Nevertheless, despite the challenge this series is still played and enjoyed and is not without its own amusing moments, and thus is why it deserves a spot in this list.
The Elder Scrolls
Yep, The Elder Scrolls is definitely one of the most popular series out there. Another fantasy-medieval style setting but with more fantasy than hardcore nightmares. A RPG that has been around for years (since 1994), you can guess it was originally a pixel style game at that time. It has grown as a series and has been taking over as one of the best game series in our time. Whether its computers, consoles, phone apps or any other electonic you can think of, The Elder Scrolls has a game for it. You create your own avatar, you start off as a weak character of course, but by the end of each story you basically become a god, or at least one of the most powerful forces in the land. Will you become a Vampire Lord, a mighty Werewolf, a powerful necromancer, a Warrior King, Servant of Demon Gods or just a Hero chosen by fate, it doesn't matter, in the end one thing is certain in each game of the series; you decide your own fate and the fate of most characters in your story. The real question is; What will you do with that power and who will you side with?
Pokemon
Come on, you should have seen this coming from a mile away. Pokemon is a series that practically rules the world of entertainment to the young genereations that ever SEEN Pokemon. Thou the games in the series change, just like the Mario series; have different things going on depending on the specific game. However most of the Pokemon games focus on one thing (Mostly the main stream ones); Travelling the region, collecting pokemon, raising and battling them, and eventually beating the Pokemon Champion of that region. Yeah, sounds easy enough to me :). Of course, they're challenges you have to face along your journey but that is part of the fun, in fact you can say that; solving puzzles, battling other trainers, and taking care of your pokemon is what makes this game series so addicting.
God of War
Yep, God of War is definitely one of the top 10 popular games and for good reason. It is a series where you kill gods and other supernatural beings to take revenge for your family. This is not a series for kids as their is blood, sex, and death everywhere. But the gameplay is fun and puts your reaction speed to the test via quick time events and annoying enemies.
Of course there is also the story within the series as well. As I mentioned before the main character Kratos goes around fighting demons and gods and other mythical beings to take his revenge for the Gods manipulating him into killing his family, taking his brother, and using him overall on thier whims. In this game, your rage is what will make you strong.
Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem has been around for quite some time and it was also on the verge of ending. Fire Emblem was popular back in the day until its fans got older and the new generation showed no interest. So this is when you say "If this series isn't popular anymore why is it on this list then?" The answer is simple, back in 2013, Fire Emblem released what was suppose to be their final game if it's popularity didn't go up. The Fire Emblem game in question is "Fire Emblem Awakening" and it is a well known fact now that if it didn't get enough sales then the series was over. But apparently that wasn't the case. This particular game made more sales than anyone could imagine. If fact the sales for the game went up so much that it "saved" the series. Ever since then, more games from this series started to be made over the years to the present day, even going so far as to make amiibos based on characters from the series. Fire Emblem was reborn back in 2013 and since then has been coming in strong for the new and old generation alike.
Fire Emblem is an almost chess-like strategy game where you control a certain number of characters (units) at a time. Certain characters will have special abilities and weapons that have an advantage over others and its up to you to exploit those advantages to attain victory. If you like to "tip the scales" in your favor in strategy then you should dive into this world of war and drama.
Call of Duty
Now I know what you are thinking; "How can this series still be popular?" I will be completely honest with you. It surprised me too, I stopped playing this game after a few years myself. But this game is still in the majority of popular games as there are still a lot of people who play this. Sure most of the players are the newer generation so it makes sense but they're also older generations that play this. Then again the online competition can be pretty addictive at times. Regardless there have been plenty of games in this series that it should end already in my book but apparently people like shooting others in a World War scenario. Thou I stopped playing this series a long time ago, it is still going strong and thus it deserves a spot on this list.
